Happenings in My Classroom
When my students get in trouble (aka pull cards to yellow), they have to write a letter home to their mom or dad and tell them what they did and what they will do better the following day. They have to have them signed and returned the following day or they miss recess. I currently have 2 students that have missed over a week of recesses because of them not returning their letters. I finally put a deadline on them turning the letters in before the letter turned into a white slip (the worst thing you can get in school that follows you throughout high school.)
One of the boys told me he was scared to give them to his mom because he had just earned everything back from getting in trouble at home. I told him to think about Christmas coming up and wouldn't he rather be in trouble now rather than at Christmas time. He said, "Yeah, I will turn the letter in tomorrow." Surprisingly it didn't show up the following day, which made me make a phone call to his mom. I will be interested to see if I see it tomorrow.
The other boy said he will be bringing 5 letters in tomorrow. His mom got an email.
