When I was in 5th grade, my friends and I decided we would be in the talent show. We put together a routine and my mom made us "cheerleader skirts" and we were up on that stage performing for the crowd. I also did an individual act for the talent show and danced a hula.
At the end of this school year I decided it was time to reprise my role in the talent show and I decided to dance a hula. I wanted to keep it a secret, so I didn't tell anyone, but there were small clues. For instance, I wore a long flowing dress the day of the show. My hair was all pulled back in a bun and then at lunch I came down with flowers in my hair. (I was really impressed at how they looked considering I had done them myself and they were staying in.) I also had lipstick on. My dad accompanied me and when he showed up and sat in the line-up of other students, staff knew something was going on.
I danced to He Aloha Kuuipo and practiced many times on my own to a version on youtube, yet my dad and i only practiced once before the talent show and then it was time to go on. His voice was amazing and I danced.
(There is video somewhere out there and as soon as I get it, I will download it here.)
After we were done, there were tons of complements and congratulations. I was so glad that I participated and that my dad could be there with me.
