Crazy Drivers...Gald It Wasn't Me!

This morning it snowed! A whole 2 inches.  And so I waited to see if school would be cancelled or delayed.  Didn't hear anything, so I headed to the gym at 5:30am.  The roads were fine.  Not many cars or crazy drivers.  I swam a half mile and then showered and went out to my car. While I was in there in about an hour and a half it snowed another 2ish inches.  I checked my phone to see if school had been delayed or cancelled and nothing, so I drove back to my house because I forgot something and then headed to a friend's house, so we could ride together to school.  The crazy people had started to come out and the roads had gotten a bit icier, but the car was doing fine.
I got to my friends house and every school district around us had closed or was doing late start, but not us. We were still full bore ahead, so in my friends car we went and up the hill.
The hill was full of cars going up and down, so the roads weren't that full of snow anymore.  The closer we got to school though, the more treacherous it got.  There were more people, more kids on the side of the roads, and more ice and snow on the roads.  On the last road before turning onto the road to get to school a car had stopped on the slope and of course couldn't make it up the little incline, so they backed up and as they did, they were fish tailing.  Thankfully their car caught just before they hit us and took up the slight incline and made it around the corner.
We, of course, made it just fine as we had 4 wheel drive and a driver that knew how to drive in the snow.  Right before school, we encountered a stopped bus loading kids, so we slowed as we watched our past students get on the bus and our current students walk to school on the right of us.  After the bus loaded and went about his business, car #1 pulled out of the driveway and tried to make a left, but he gunned it too hard and his SUV type car hit a patch of ice and started to slide.  He T-boned the car in front of us and then started sliding toward our car.  I started praying, not to hit us and for him to slow his roll and thankfully he did, right next to us.  It was a bit scary, because there was nowhere for us to go as he was coming from the left and on the right of us were kids walking to school.  Then car #1 tried to pull off to the side and because of the snow and his inability to drive, he drove his car off into a ditch!

Now if only we would have started 2 hours late, all of this could have been avoided because the snow started melted around 10am.  I only ended up having 13 students that day as many of the buses never picked up the kids, so it was pretty hard to know what to teach, but we got through it and then thank goodness, got to start winter break on time and so far don't have to make up any days, yet anyway.
