Oh Hey, Friday

Glad to see you here again! I waited for you all week and now I'm wondering a few things...

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a 10 year-old boy as the craziest things make me laugh! (just an FYI, I know I'm not, but seriously! Why do I laugh at these things?) For instance:

1. When someone does this:

or when someone says balls, or when someone tries to do a crazy trick and falls, or when 2. someone scares someone else.

3.  I've also been wondering why pintrest homepage is full of school pins and not these hilarious pins instead

4.  And I've been wondering why must all the good tv shows be on so late and at the same time as other shows I watch.

5.  I wonder why every week day it's a struggle to get up at 5:45, yet on the weekends it's no problem!

Laughing Out Loud with Jimmy Fallon

I've been watching some, well a lot really,  youtube lately and I stumbled upon some really funny ones from Jimmy Fallon and if he wasn't on so late I would probably watch him.

It's Thursday and I'm So Happy!

As I walked out of my house today, I could tell it was going to be a rough day. I hadn't gotten enough sleep over the week and I was harboring some resentment which was dragging me down.  I worked out and as I was getting ready for the day, one of the ladies at the gym said something to me. I answered her in a monotone grunt or two.  She stopped what she was doing and she looked at me and said, "It must be a SHIT day for you." I thought, "WOW, never heard her swear." Then she kept talking, "SHIT day is what Dawn calls Thursdays."
"How come?" I said.
"It's an acronym for So Happy It's Thursday."
I loved it and in my head all day long I chanted, "SHIT, SHIT, SHIT, SHIT, SHIT!"

CMA Hosts

Totally didn't realize as I watched the CMA's this year and was dying with laughter at how funny Brad and Carrie were in the opening, that they had been doing this for years.

The Happenings in My Classroom

We are just finishing our 3rd week of school and my kids are settled in just fine, even though I've already had to be absent (professional development-district mandated.)  With over the limit (29) of kids in my classroom at 31, my principal had to decide if they were going to get assistants for both my partner and I, who has 31 as well, or if she was going to be able to swing a new teacher.  The new teacher would be a 5/6 split as we have a lot of 6th graders as well.
Lucky for us we will be getting a teacher, as soon as that person gets hired! Anyone want a job, please apply. You have until Friday and there are only 75 applicants, chances are good!  But with getting a new teacher that means we will have to move some of our kids out of our room, which will be sad.  My partner and I looped up with many of our kids and to give up any of them would be devastating, so we both decided it would have to be the new kids first that had to go to the new room and then we would pick a few kids from the classroom that got dissolved into ours.  It still made it a hard decision for me as I had taught many of the ones in 2nd grade too.  With some sadness and some joy, more joy than sadness, we picked 12 amazing kids to join those 6th graders.
I really can't wait, because it means my class will go down to 24 kids! Yes! So much more manageable than 31, which just recently turned into 30.  More room in the classroom and less body odor.  Thank Goodness!

I'm No Betty Crocker!

This week I've been baking for our fundraiser down in Vancouver this weekend. I decided to make zucchini bread and cookies. Not so hard, yet I had never made the bread before, so I was a little nervous, especially after I couldn't find zucchini.

I whipped all the stuff together for the bread, poured it into the 5 pans and put them in the oven. I diligently watched them raise and turn brown. They looked delicious. My mom said I would know they were down when I touched the top and it sprang back and if I stuck a toothpick in it and it came back clean. Well I did that to them and they seemed good, so I pulled them out, covered them and went about the rest of my day. When I went to cut and bag them the following day, two of the breads had caved into itself. I looked into the big hole it left and it was still doughy inside. I couldn't believe it. It looked fine when it came out of the oven. The other three were fine.

Yesterday I started in on making the cookies. I wasn't feeling good, but knew I had to make the cookies, so I got to work. I mixed the first batch, cooked two pans and everything was good. Put the third pan in and totally forgot about it. (I went down to my neighbors to borrow some brown sugar) When I came home I smelt a little burning, so I went to the oven to look and see what was happening and found the pan of brown cookies. I pulled it out. They didn't look horrible, but as I was pulling them out the pan's edge touched my skin and burned my hand. I dropped the pan and all the cookies fell to the ground. Boo! I cleaned up the mess and started on the next batch.

Again I cooked two pans and everything was good, put that third pan in again and forgot about it. (This time I got a phone call) When I came back this time, they were black and unsalvageable.

I can't believe that this happened to me, normally I am really good in the kitchen, but I guess that is what happens when you haven't been baking in awhile. I did end up making another batch of bread and it came out better than the first batch. Practice, practice, practice.

100 Day

My first grade students and I have been counting the days we have been in school on chart that lookes like this. Each day we add the number and the coin amount to make that number. When they were in kindergarten the 100th day of school was a big deal, but in first grade we do a few things, but then treat it like it is any other day. While many of my students thought that once we filled the chart we would be done with school, one of my girl students knew this to not be true.
See, my mom comes and bakes cake at the end of the month with all the kids who have birthdays in that month. It lets my mom come back into the classroom, gives my students the experience of cooking, and lets them feel special because they made something for the whole class for their birthday.
So the girl has not had a chance to bake cake with my mom yet, so on the 100th day of school, with our chart filled I asked if this was the last day of school and she raised her hand and said no. I asked her to explain how she knew it wasn't the last day of school and she said because there are all these months left (pointing to the birthday chart) that kids didn't get to bake cake with your mom.

Comments

We have to be so careful about what we say today, because we never know when our words are going to come back and hurt us or embarrass us. I have been very particular about the words that I use with parents over this week and so far it has gone very well. There are 5 parents that were no shows, but hopefully I will be able to catch up with them soon.
This morning as I was exercising on the elliptical with my headphones on, I ended up laughing out loud as I was watching SportsCenter . A question asked to Phil Jackson and his response was what did it. I could have cared less who was watching me laugh at the tv although this morning there was no one around even to look.
Check out the comment and story HERE
What was funny to me was the comment he made as well as when he was apologizing for it through a taped segment to SportsCenter, he made another error in judgement and said sorry to the horses and thanked SportsCenter for making it a bigger deal than it should have been.
All I have to say to that is make sure whatever you say could be said to that person or printed across the headline of a newspaper.

Cell Phone Helpful Hints

  • When in need of a flashlight, because your lights have gone out, use your cell phone light to check your fuse box. It will work every time, as long as you remembered to charge it.
  • After using your bluetooth, remember to turn it off. Because the next time you try to answer your phone, you won't be able to hear the person because your bluetooth will be buried under a bunch of stuff and you will be trying to hear the person talking through your phone.
  • While praying turn off your cell phone, so that it doesn't ring. And if you forget-1. don't run for it to turn it off and 2. change your ring right away, so no one knows it was you.

What's that Smell?

At my sister's last shower, we played the diaper game, which almost made be gag by the way, but it was funny to watch the faces that people were making as they smelled and looked at the wonderful concoction that was placed in the diaper.

Fun for You and All Your Friends

Sit on chair.
Put your right foot out.
Make circles with your foot going clockwise.
Now with your right hand, draw a 6 in the air.

Your foot will change directions.

I swear. It made me laugh. I hope it does to you too.

Super Funny

Found this on a new photographer's site that I was checking out. He got this youtube from a friend. I'm glad that I found it because it had me laughing until I woke the man upstairs.
