The Happenings in My Classroom

We are just finishing our 3rd week of school and my kids are settled in just fine, even though I've already had to be absent (professional development-district mandated.)  With over the limit (29) of kids in my classroom at 31, my principal had to decide if they were going to get assistants for both my partner and I, who has 31 as well, or if she was going to be able to swing a new teacher.  The new teacher would be a 5/6 split as we have a lot of 6th graders as well.
Lucky for us we will be getting a teacher, as soon as that person gets hired! Anyone want a job, please apply. You have until Friday and there are only 75 applicants, chances are good!  But with getting a new teacher that means we will have to move some of our kids out of our room, which will be sad.  My partner and I looped up with many of our kids and to give up any of them would be devastating, so we both decided it would have to be the new kids first that had to go to the new room and then we would pick a few kids from the classroom that got dissolved into ours.  It still made it a hard decision for me as I had taught many of the ones in 2nd grade too.  With some sadness and some joy, more joy than sadness, we picked 12 amazing kids to join those 6th graders.
I really can't wait, because it means my class will go down to 24 kids! Yes! So much more manageable than 31, which just recently turned into 30.  More room in the classroom and less body odor.  Thank Goodness!
