The Happeneings in My Room
This year started fast and furious and I can't believe we are already starting our second full week of school. I started the year with 31 kiddos and loved them all. Sadly 31 is too much to have in one room with one teacher, so I thought I would be able to get an assistant. Nope! My teaching partner had 32 and both 6th grade classrooms had 31 students, so last week Monday a 5/6 split was born. Luckily 3 of us (me included) had already taught a split, so the one teacher that had never taught a split got the call and then we are in process of hiring a new 6th grade teacher. But that also meant I was going to have to give up 7 of my kids. Sad! I picked based on their grades and MSP scores and sadly that meant many of the kids that I loved and had waited to have since they were in Kindergarten, I was yet again not getting this class.
So our new class, now with only 24 started last Monday. And oh, my goodness, what a difference it makes to have 7 less bodies in my classroom. It's so nice. I'm able to talk with all the kids in one day. I can work individually with each of them. I love it! It also means I have a new teaching partner (the 5/6 teacher) and another teacher to work with for math as the 5th graders from the split go to someone else, so although I lost kids I added adults.
