Wednesday Hodgepodge Vol. 110

1. The popular saying, 'All is fair in love and war' is originally credited to English writer John Lyly.  Is he right?

He is not right.  Not all things are fair, so how can love and war be?

2. Are you a cereal eater?  What's your favorite kind?

Love cereal for breakfast, dinner, snack.  I eat it all the time.  I'm for sure a flake cereal kind of gal, but sometimes I change it up.  So my Top 10 cereals: (in no particular order)
1. Honey Bunches of Oats
2. Frosted Flakes
3. Honey Nut Cheerios
4. Ohs
5. Cinnamon Toast Crunch
6. Captain Crunch

3. A five year old in Pennsylvania was recently given a ten day school suspension for talking with a friend about shooting one another with a Hello Kitty Bubble gun (the gun blows bubbles).  She did not have the gun with her at school.
A psychological evaluation was also ordered and the incident was recorded on her permanent record.  The suspension was later reduced to two days and her parents are suing to have the incident removed from her file. Your thoughts?  (If you missed the story click here for details).

Wow! That seems to have been taken a little overboard.  There is a no tolerance policy at many schools, but many kids at that age don't even really know what they are saying and how it may mean something totally different to someone else.  It's crazy to me that they did a psych eval on her, she's 5 and unless there was more than that incident that happened, I think that is ridiculous.
Putting it on her record on the other hand, I feel should have happened as it something that happened and she was suspended for it.

4. Whatever happened to people taking responsibility for things rather than blaming others?

It drives me nuts when people just don't take responsibility for things and would rather blame everyone and everything else for their inability to do something.

5.  January 23rd is National Handwriting Day, billed as a day to reacquaint yourself with a pen and pencil.  Do you like your handwriting? Do you prefer to print or write in cursive?  This date was chosen because its the birth date of John Hancock. What's the last thing you signed your name to?

I love my handwriting and so do many other people.  I typically print, but when I want to write faster I have adopted  quick from of putting print and cursive together.  I signed my name to my students awards they got for meeting their goal for Extra Math.

6. Speaking of John Hancock...ever been to Philadelphia? Do you have any desire to visit the city of Brotherly Love?

Never been to Philly and have never really wanted to go.  If I did I would for sure go and see the arch and then a baseball game.

7.  Share something funny you've heard a child say.

Kids say the craziest things.  Last week my kid's homwork was to write if they would wanted to be a teacher or a student.  Many wanted to be the teacher because they could "go on facebook all day," "drink shakes and smoothies," "be on the computer," "have their own laptop," "eat whenever they wanted to," "go to the bathroom and not have to ask to go," and it went on and on with things like this.  I really wondered if this was all they thought I did all day.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I'm super excited the weekend is just around the corner, but it also means we are one day closer to having to have our grades done.  Yikes!

Your answer to #7 made me laugh. I guess that's how they see things.

Have a great weekend!

Wow that's what they think a teacher does? I think they would be mighty surprised at the amount of work it takes. You must make it look easy.
