HWY 101 Day 3

Monday morning we woke up and started our drive down the Oregon Coast to Florence, Oregon. I have very fond memories of Florence. The first time we camped out there with family friends from Washington (we lived in Springfield at the time.) It was the first time our family had ever camped, other than on the beach. We had a great time and the best part was the sand dunes. The whole coast out in Florence is full of sand dunes. There are even sand dunes that go right into the water that you can ride saucers down the hill and into the water. After that first time of camping there, there were many more trips with my Camp Fire group out to the same campground, Jessie M. Honeyman Campground.
As we drove down the Coast we made many stops, the first place we stopped was Hug Point (yes, estrogen militia it is the same place) We got out and hiked around into caves made by the ocean and saw waterfalls all over.

We also say haystack rock,

sea lions,

birds,

and then stopped at Devil's Churn. There we found out that the Oregon coast is made up of small volcanoes and that starfish push their stomach out and into ophi shells and eat out the ophi,. Once we finally got to Honeymans we set up camp

and then had to get more wood,

as we didn't have any room to put the wood we had leftover from Ocean Shores.
One the way back to the campground we stopped to see the sand dunes. Sadly they didn't live up to my expectations. The hill that used to be straight up and down into the lake, was now a moderate incline up away from the lake. Sad!!! We couldn't decide if the sand had been trucked away or if the wind had really just carried it away.
