5th graders think they are soo savvy and grown up, but oh they still have so much room to learn. One of my students is still learning this. She has been gone for a weekish and accumulated a lot of work she needs to make up. She also isn't completing the new work that she is getting in class, as she seems to be talking to everyone around her. Yesterday as she was supposed to be completing work in all the way in the back of the classroom. She thought it would be okay to call across the classroom to one of her friends, who was sitting right next to me, so they could have a conversation.
I looked at her and said, "You've got to be kidding me! Really?!?! She's sitting right next to me and you are supposed to be quietly working."
Oh some kids!

I love that you can say that and they get it! The one nice thing about the older grades!
