Day 3 ended with a big bonfire and s'mores. As the night wore into morning, it was getting colder, so I sat close to the fire. In a split second I knew that was a bad decision. The fire popped and an ember flew up into the sky and down onto my face getting caught between my cheek and glasses. I whipped my glasses off, threw my chair out of the way in and batted at my face to flick the ember off.
I ran to the bathroom for some cold water and to take a look at the damage it had done. It was pretty red and my face hurt, so I went back to the campsite for ice and a little TLC.
The next morning I was able to get some neosporin from the Park Ranger and applied it for a few days. My face luckily is okay, but it sure did hurt.
Later that morning when we woke up and discovered our tent had leaked just a wee bit, we also found a few more sites...
A little chipmunk had made it into one of the bags and stole the whole GALLON size bag of trail mix. And all that was left was this pile and a trail as to where he had off with it.
Throughout the morning we had many visitors eating off of the trail.
Later that day, Riles's mom, daughter, and granddaughter came out to play at the beach. So we loaded everyone up and headed out to the beach. We decided to go out on the South Jetty and even drove out there. It was very nerve racking for me as the last time we drove on the sand someone got stuck, and it wasn't me. Luckily we didn't get stuck this time and we had a great time.
That night after everyone left and we ate dinner (chicken grilled over the fire,) we headed back to the beach for a walk and some reading.
It was about 3 hours till sunset and about hour 2, the kids were ready to go back to the campsite. I thought we've come this close, why leave an hour early, so we waited that extra hour for the sun to set
and then headed back to camp. I stayed way away from the fire that night, not wanting anything more to happen to my face or any other part of my body.
