Costco has changed that all. Samples are offered every day. You no longer have to listen to the Sample Lady at all, you just walk up and take, eat, and walk away. And it seems that it's no longer one per customer: It's one for me and oh, one for my wife or girlfriend or husband that is over an aisle (aka AT HOME!)
When this new sample phenomenon started taking place, our family would have Costco samples for lunch and then share a hotdog on the way home. It was amazing. We would take one of everything with no discernment of what it was or if we were going to like it or not. Plus it seemed to be a race to see if we could make it around to all of the sample places before they were out.
But now as I've gotten older, I started to slow down and actually listen to the Sample Ladies as they try and sell their product, taste it, possibly make a comment about how good it is and then move on.

I remember sample day :). Wasn't allowed to take too many samples as a kid. One thing I have noticed is the samples have gotten bigger. There is one store I go to (not saying which) gives out hole cupcakes as a sample. Great when one is craving a sweet while shopping.
