I was gone from school yesterday and told the kids that they needed to be on their best behavior to keep their cookie party that was supposed to happen today.Well in getting the note from the sub, they were good, but in talking to the VP, they weren't soo good. So I decided that we could have half the party and for the other half we would discuss how they will act when another sub comes...(cause it's going to happen soon) We had discussions about how they act for me and how they acted for the substitute. And how really they should be acting the same for both of us and how I didn't understand how they didn't act well for both us.
Then one of my little ones made a text to world connection (yeah for the connection, but I don't know if I should be so pleased with it)
He said that the substitute is like Miss Nelson in Miss Nelson is Missing.
The students are bad for her and don't listen to her and that I am like Miss Viola Swamp, the teacher that comes in and makes the kids follow the directions and makes them do work. Oh how lovely!!! But then he said I really wasn't like her, cause I wouldn't come to school all dressed up like she does. Oh, what he doesn't know!!!

That sounds like a challenge to me! I think subs are used to the naughty behavior, so it's not a big deal to them but for others who see our classes everyday they can see the behavior that we don't tolerate.
