While in Spokane, my sister and I got to judge a Grilled Cheese contest. Six local area chefs all convened at Taste Cafe
(located on Howard and Sprague) to show their originality and love for the grilled cheese sandwich. My sister and I along with 5 other judges (Mark Peterson , Jaime Johnson from Jaime Johnson Events, the editor of Spokane Metro, and two other food people) tried all of the sandwiches. All of the sandwiches very distinctive tastes and many interesting ingredients. Three out of the six sandwiches had bacon. One had huckleberry cream cheese and sunny side up egg, where another had sauteed onions, and still another was all homemade: the bread, the butter, the cheese, and the salami.
They all were good in their own right, but one stood above the rest. The one that was all cheese, 4 to be exact. It was full of melted goodness. It was heavenly and was the winner. The winning chef just happened to be from Taste Cafe, yet because the cafe already had all the prizes, they were nice and gifted all the prizes to the second place chef who had made the grilled cheese with all the homemade ingredients.
-sorry for the blurriness on some of the pictures, my mom was documenting the event as my sister and I pigged out on cheese.-
Can't tell we're sisters in this picture can you?
Mark making one of his witty comments about the grilled cheese sandwich I'm sure!
We had a great time and really I would love to judge another contest! Anyone having a contest?
