Don't Do This At Home

This week I was back at hula after a week off for conferences. My class had started a new song, which is a hula noho, which means we are sitting on the ground. We are also using an ipu in our dance, which means we are hitting a gord. I obviously was hitting mine too hard because look at my hand.
It started hurting after only a short time of practicing the song, but like a good hula dancer I kept going. When I got home I could tell it was a little swollen, so I put some ice on it and went to bed. Today when I woke up, it hurt, but I still couldn't see anything different than my other hand.
When I went to school though, it was a different story. I was in the bathroom and washing my hands when I realized that my whole thumb area was the wrong color and size (as you can see in the picture). I went through the rest of the day nursing my hand and when I got home I put some ice on it.
My hand still hurts and I plan to milk it for all it is worth...which will probably be nothing at all.
Moral of the story: Don't hit an ipu hard, because it will hurt your hand.
