I never thought it was possible, but so far last year and this year it is working...at least my ability is working. While at hula, my kumu says things to us to make us work harder as well as make us check ourselves to make sure we are not the ones that are messing up. I have since brought many of these same sayings into my classroom. The first couple of times, it was kind of scary because they are things I wouldn't normally say, but I knew I had heard them somewhere. When I figured out where they were coming from, it just made me laugh.
"That doesn't work in this class."
"If you are going to do it that way, you don't belong in this class. You can go down the road" (to kindergarten, I add)
"You don't want me to start calling names." (I usually say this after they have been talking and I have said, "If you were talking, go pull a card, because we are on no talking.")
