Wednesday Hodpodge Vol. 108

1. What is ONE thing or area in your home or life you hope to report is completely organized when 2013 draws to a close?  Do you  have a plan to make it happen?

Actually my life/home is and stays pretty organized. I'm pretty OCD about things like that.  Maybe if something new comes up to organize then it will be that, but pretty much right now nothing is out of place.

2. What's the worst uniform you've ever had to wear for a job?

I've never had a uniform for work. I've always worked in places that were business casual.  Sometimes I will say I push the limit when it's not Friday and I'm in jeans and a hooded sweatshirt, but I feel that as long as it's the school sweatshirt I should be okay, right?!?

3. What was your last kitchen 'mishap'?  This question comes to you courtesy of Betty who blogs over at A Glimpse Into Midlife...everyone go say hi to Betty!

Aaah, I can't think of the last one, but the one I just can't seem to get right is zucchini bread.  I love it and would love to eat it more than I really should, but each time I make it something catastrophic happens. For instance, one time I was making multiple batches and putting each pan in and pulling them out at the end of time (not checking them, just going by the brown top) well come to find out I should have check them because when I did they were all still full of oooey gooey dough, not bread.  So for me, it would be zucchini bread.

4. How do you protect yourself from other people's negativity?

I have a few things I try: 1. I let it flow one ear and out the other.  2. Stop them before they get going, telling the person that if they are going to be negative, I'm not listening.  3. Make them say 2 positive things about the person or thing they were negative about.

5. Who in your family do you most resemble (physically)? If you have children, who do people say they favor? Do you agree?

I've been told I'm a spitting image of my grandmother, whom I'm named after yet never met as she passed away when my dad was 9 years old.  I'm a good mixture of my mom and dad.

6. January 8th is National Bubble Bath Day...will you be celebrating?

Nope.  Although I love a good bath, it was yesterday and I didn't know about it.  Funny thing is that I really don't like the thoughts of showers and baths.  They seem like so much work, you have to take off all your clothes, shower, dry off,  and then get dressed again.  But when I finally make myself get in there, I totally don't ever want to get out.

7.  Some of the 'world's best winter festivals' are - Mardi Gras (New Orleans), Quebec Winter Festival (Canada), Sundance Film Festival (Park City, Utah),  Rio Carnivale (Brazil), Sapporo Snow Festival (Japan), Venice Carnival (Italy) and the Harbin Ice Festival (Northern China).  Of those listed (and if cost were not a factor) which would you most like to attend and why?

I've attended Mardi Gras and loved it.  All the beads, people, parades, drinking, dancing...it was way too much fun! I would love to go to Carnival, to see the parades and floats and beads, people, drinking and dancing. I'm in.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I went to the supermarket the other day and found 12 boxes of cucumbers empty.  Yes, the were 48 cents a piece, but really 12 boxes completely empty.  I couldn't believe it.  Then I was in the car with my friend tonight and her husband called saying they had cucumbers at Walmart for the same price and how much did she want.  I told her my story and she told me that everyone is "juicing" and that is why there is no more cucumbers.  They had shopped over the weekend and Safeway and Fred Meyer were low on all their veggies and fruits.  Welcome to the New Year and everyone trying to get skinny at my gym and making their juice or "juicing" as my friend calls it.  When will it be Spring and I can have my gym and fruits and vegetables back?

Ha-it's a new year and everyone has resolved to eat healthier I guess : ) I bet in a couple of weeks you'll be able to find them! I love them as a snack but ours are not .48. I have to pay almost a dollar for a cucumber, but I figure that's still less than a bag of chips, right?

Wow I hadn't heard of a run on cucumbers because people are juicing. Guess I need to check the stores this weekend.
