Happenings in my Classroom

I've really been enjoying the conversations with my students lately. We've been talking about how laws are made and where they are made (Olympia) and then with the protests going on in the news. We chatted a little about it and then talked about protests that students might have if they wanted something to be different.
I told them about a school district that is close by that stopped selling chocolate milk and the lengths that the students went to get it to come back. They said they would do the same thing. Too cute!
We also spoke about difference between protests and strikes. Then we ended up talking about the teacher strike that we had a few years ago.

Later that day, in the book we were reading they were talking about two characters. A father and a son. One a Duane Scrod Sr. and the other Duane Scrod Jr. The kids had questions about what if it was a mother and a daughter with the same name, would it be the same? I told them that it didn't apply to women. Then they wanted to know if the son had a son and named him the same name, would he be another junior. I told them he would be the third and then the fourth and fifth and on and on...

A few days later, we found out that one of characters had written a book under a pseudonym. First they needed to know what pseudonym was and then they wanted to know if she had to go down to Olympia to have her name changed or if she could just do it.

Ooooh the converstaions!
