Happenings in my Classroom
This week I started teaching a comprehension strategy called questioning. It is what good readers do when they are reading. They don't just read the word they ask themselves questions about what they are reading: Why did she do that? Where will they go next? Did the dog really just start talking to the boy?
So while the kids worked on their stamina (being able to sit and just read) they were also supposed to write down at least 4 questions about their book they are reading. So at the end of their 30 min of reading one day after giving them a 10 min warning of having their questions done and a 5 min warning of having their questions done. I have a student look up at me and say, "Oh Ms. Chock, I was so in to my book I forgot to write my questions."
All I could do was smile and giggle, because really, can you fault a student for reading the whole time and being so lost in their book that they tune everything out and just read?
