Happenings in My Classroom

It was Conference week this week and I enjoyed fully talking to all my parents. Last night during one of my conferences, I found out that although one of my students "looks" totally lost in class he is devouring books at home. Chapter books in 2 days! I also found out that his mom has been trying to get him to cut his hair. I, too, have thought he has needed a haircut for a long time, but hadn't said much, because one time I said something the child got very offended.
His mom, speaking through a translator, was asking me to tell him he needs a haircut. I told him that soon, he will be mistaken for a girl. Mom said that that has already happened. I then told him that he would be much cooler with less hair, because during the hot days he always feels like he is going to pass out after recess. Mom said that she tried with the scissors and he just ran away. I, then, jokingly told her to send him to school and I will cut it. I've cut boys hair before. I'm sure I could do it again. The boy just laughed, where his mom asked the translator if I was telling the truth!
I wouldn't mind cutting his hair, but it really isn't in my job description and I might get in trouble...but I would, cause he really needs one.
