The Happenings in My Classroom

At the end of the day as my students walk out the door, they must give me either a high five or a hug, so that I know they are leaving and so that they just don't run out the door in a rush. With the little kids their choice more often than not was a hug, which I had no problem giving and I didn't really pay attention to the fact of it being a side hug or a real hug. Yet now with the older kids, it's a bit different, many of them choose to go for the high five, which I am cool with.
But there is one kid who always wants a hug, which is fine as long as it's a side hug. Yet one day he caught me off guard and planted his head right in my chest and hugged me really hard. I immediately realized what was going on and pulled away and sent him on his way...in knowing the child, I'm sure he meant nothing by it, yet still....
