There was nothing...but then I looked again and there was a couple that was sitting at a 6-top (restaurant speak for a table for 6 people) so I asked nicely if we could sit with them. The lady already a little tipsy said we could sit with them as long as we ordered a bucket. A bucket is a drink served in a little kids sand bucket along with a shovel. It has 5 different kinds of rum and a splash of some juice or another. Although we didn't feel obligated to order buckets we did anyway, along with some amazing cheesy bread a pizza and a calazone. We ate and drank and had a merry time.
The couple, who we sat with, finished up their food and left us with 4 empty chairs. I noticed that there was another group (3) looking for a table to sit with and I thought about being nice and letting them sit with us, but with 3 people they would kind of been encroaching on our space, so I thought better of it and just let it go. I did though watch one of the ladies from the group try talk to the bartender about getting a table several times.
When we were done, we tried repeatedly to get our servers attention, but she was no where to be found and when we did see her she would ignore us. We thought it was weird as we had had fantastic service the whole night and now when it came to getting our check we couldn't. Finally we flagged her down enough to ask for our check and then she vanished again. 15ish min. later she reappeared with our check. She set it down on our table, with a peculiar grin on her face. I told her our bill must be free.
She said no, but then preceded to say that there was a group of people that was being really rude about being sat and that they had been eyeing our table and that they had wanted her to come and stand over us so that we would hurry up and finish so they could have our table. So she didn't want to server them and she was going to buy us a drink, so that we would stay longer and they would have to wait longer and hopefully get sat in a different section. We were beside ourselves! How ingenious she was! We delightfully took the drinks and stayed longer enjoying a free drink on the house.
Therefore be nice to your servers and they will be nice to you.
