An Amazing Vacation

The planning of this little vacation was surprising, quick, and furious...as time was not on our side and the weekend was quickly approaching. There needed to be a plane ride, a car rental, and a hotel all magically available at the right time and for the right price. Luckily all the stars aligned and the vacation happened last weekend as I and an old college friend headed to South Bend, Indiana to watch Notre Dame play the University of Washington.
Our plane left at 11pm on Friday and I arrived back in Seattle at 11pm on Sunday. Needless to say the trip was very quick, but it was full of fun and excitement and some pretty amazing football game. South Bend really comes alive on Game Day Weekends. There are multiple activities to attend and everyone is super nice.
We toured campus before the game started visiting the Grotto, Touchdown Jesus, the oldest building on campus, the Gold Dome, many of the statues (now with football names), and the student union building to try and use the bathroom.
One of the traditions of the team is to go to mass before the game and then walk across campus to the field together before the game starts. People line the pathway to watch them come in and tell them good game. It was very cool to be apart of it. UW arrived in four "rockin" buses and followed them in.
Throughout the day there had been rain and grey skies, but with the game about to begin the sun came out and everyone stripped of their rain gear and coats, but it was short lived. It rained off and on throughout the game and in the end had a great downpour during halftime.
The game was good, although both teams didn't seem like they wanted to win. There were many penalties, but finally Notre Dame decided it was time to win and scored a touchdown in overtime after making 5 field goals in regulation.
Mass at the Basillica was amazing and the homily and readings spoke volumes. Before we headed out of town we went to the College Football Hall of Fame. It was very amazing. I for sure could have spent more time in it.
Tired and ready for my bed, we headed out to catch our flights only to hit traffic, have to get gas and barley make the flight.
