I DID A 5K!!!

It started with an email invitation...she said she was running a 5k and wondered if anyone wanted to do it with her. I thought, oooh a new shirt! Then I thought some more, I could figure out how fast I can run and get a new shirt! Then I though some more, I could see if I could do it under an hour, see how fast I run and get a new shirt! I was in. So yesterday morning Becker and I took on the mighty 5k of Bellingham Bay!
I really didn't do much training for it other than switching from doing my cardio on the elliptical to the treadmill, so I wasn't expecting anything big. I had kind of settled for talking an hourish, although I really wanted to do it under an hour.
Our race started at 7:45, so we went down to the race area about 7:15ish. It was full of people crazy enough to be doing a marathon and a half marathon! They started before us at 7:30 and then we were up!

We started together and the plan was to run the first mile together, but I had issues with my headset and my pants falling, so I fell behind and Becker kept running.
I decided to keep a brisk walking pace and at times I would run. I tried to catch up with the people in front of me, but each time I got close, they would take of running! Dang them! Coming around different curves in the path I would see Becker, but then she would take the next corner and would be gone again. Booo!
I finished the race in 45min (unofficial time) and was super proud of myself.

The shirt matched the shirt I wore for the race in that it was orange. I guess great minds think a like! Shortly after I finished my race (30min.) the first marathon runner crossed the finish line. He didn't even look winded! I wish I could have been him...he got a medal and everything!
After we cooled down and did some stretches (although I don't think I did enough cause I'm a little sore) we headed to breakfast at a cute little place in Bellingham. Becker went with the #9 Poached Eggs on a Biscuit with Cheese Sauce.

I devoured an egg, cheese, and bacon sandwich with homefries.

We were both pleased with our choices to eat and to run. Becker is on to her next run in October, but I think I might wait till May for Bloomsday. It's only a 12K
