What Could Happen

We, as a nation, are a melting pot of different cultures able to celebrate any and every holiday we choose to. We are that same melting pot in our schools, yet we are told which holidays we can and can't celebrate as to not offend any culture or religious groups.
Some of my greatest memories from school are the times that we learned about these holidays and celebrated them all together as a class. It always seemed to bring us closer together and bond us as we would share a "mock" thanksgiving dinner or create our own Christmas trees and then put them up on the board. We even got to dress-up in our Halloween costumes, parade throughout the school, and then eat candy till our hearts were content and our stomachs were bursting.
I feel our kids today are really missing out on these experiences!
Don't get me wrong, I have no problem celebrating holidays from other religions or cultures, but I also want to celebrate my own. I worry, that as we continue to steer-away from teaching about and celebrating the traditional "American" holidays' celebrated, we are also steering away a part of us as a nation. Soon people will forget that we ever taught about and celebrated holidays in the classroom and it will all be just washed away.
The good thing is, that I'm not the only one worried about things like this, so are others, some have been worried for some time.

General Eisenhower Warned Us

It is a matter of history that when Supreme Commander of the Allied Forces, General Dwight
Eisenhower, found the victims of the death camps he ordered all possible photographs to be taken, and for the German people from surrounding villages to be ushered through the camps and even made to bury the dead.

He did this because he said in words to this effect:

'Get it all on record now - get the films - get the witnesses -because some where down the road of history some bastard will get up and say that this never happened.
This week, the UK removed The Holocaust from its school curriculum because it 'offended' the Muslim population which claims it never occurred. This is a frightening portent of the fear that is gripping the world and how easily each country is giving into it.

It is now more than 60 years after the Second World War in Europe ended. This e-mail is being sent as a memorial chain, in memory of the, 6 million Jews, 20 million Russians, 10 million Christians, and 1,900 Catholic priests who were 'murdered, raped, burned, starved, beat, experimented on and humiliated' while the German people looked the other way!

Now, more than ever, with Iran , among others, claiming the Holocaust to be 'a myth,' it is imperative to make sure the world never forgets.

How many years will it be before the attack on the World Trade Center , 'NEVER
HAPPENED' because it offends some Muslim in the U.S. ??????

oooh good post friend!! i too am saddened that nyomi is not allowed to celebrate x-mas, thanksgiving, halloween & even valentine's day in school. those were some of the funnest times in elementary school & i feel that she is missing out. so sad that because of some peoples beliefs, it takes away from our children in one form or another.
