I just found out and I'm so excited for him. He has been my long time friend at the YMCA. He actually was the first person to talk to me when we were over at the old pool and from there a fast friendship took place. We spent many mornings together at water aerobics. Laughing, cannonballing, sliding down the slide, and sharing our lives. I even tried to set him up with my Grandma, but he wasn't looking at that time.
Over the years, my schedule has changed and I haven't been in the pool with Ed in a long time, so it wasn't until this morning when I ran into him that he was able to pass along the news. His wife, who had dementia and hadn't recognized him as her husband for years, passed away last December. At her funeral, a new lady hailing from Alaska helped put out the food for the reception. Ed wanted to thank her and decided he would take her out to dinner. According to him that is all it was...dinner, but dinner turned into a lot more and now they will be heading down the aisle on January 1st.
I am so excited for him and her. I hope I get to meet her before the wedding, but if not I know that Ed will be just fine by the smile I saw on his face this morning and the way he lit up when he talked about her.
