Kids Say the Darndest Things

Today we went to the Woodland Park Zoo and had a wonderful time. The weather was nice, i.e. no snow, and it wasn't wet meaning no rain. There were lots of amazing animals to look at and take pictures of, but I think my favorite part was just talking to my kids about anything and really being able to listen and not have to worry about all the other things back at school.

On the trip up there I had the pleasure of sitting next to one of my students who talked my ear off. He had a story for almost every place we passed. "This is where so and so lives...this is where we ride the bus to....this is where we eat." Then he pointed to a very nice set of apartments and said, "This is where my aunt and her boyfriend live. They had to pay a hundred dollars to live there." "Oh," I said and he kept talking."Her boyfriend paid the money and he gets $10 a week for his job." I laughed (in my head), but then stated to the little boy that he would have to work a very long time to get to live in those apartments if he only got $10 a week.

On the trip back, on kid sitting a few rows back from me tried repeatedly to get my attention. When I finally acknowledged him, he told me he noticed a man standing on the side of the street with a cigarette in his mouth and then made a disgusted face. I told him that it is gross and he agreed. I hope he still thinks that later on in his life.

The kids are also enjoying trying to trick each other and me about things that are on our clothes or behind us. It's the whole "made you look game." It makes them and me laugh.
I can't wait to hear more stories of what happened at the zoo from them tomorrow when they get to see the wonderful shots I got.

Oh, I forgot to tell you something funny. I was showing the kids the photos you took and my lil' guy wants to know "what you said to them so let you go inside the cage." He wanted to know if "you also get to pet the animals after you take their picture." ;-)
