...the first week that is. Although I am tired and somehow I hurt my leg, I survived. My kids are starting to get used to the routine and what they need to do. They are also seemingly starting to settle in. I am realizing that I need to go to bed on time and not think, that I can stay up just a little bit more. I had them start pulling cards (discipline system) on Friday and that is where I saw my first real tears. One of my students didn't work during work time and then when it was time to move on, he wanted to do his work. I gave him a couple of chances to realize what he was doing was wrong and then made him pull a card, which is just a warning, but it made a great impression on him. He sobbed for a good 5 minutes, but the best part is that my students just ignored him and we went on with life. He eventually came around. I hope that it will help with the rest of the time. There were a few other students that needed to pull cards as well for not working and for forgetting to go to the bathroom at recess. It will be interesting to see what happens next week as the honeymoon period continues. Hopefully it wont be over yet.
This weekend I am planning on relaxing by getting a pedicure and going and watching some Mariners. I will post pictures later. I hope that all the teachers who read this also had great first weeks and aren't ready to quit the profession.
