One Monday Morning

is the title of the story I am reading to my students this week, but it is also the start of my story for this week thus far..so this Monday morning I woke up and went and worked out. When I was finished working out, I was getting ready at the gym, and I noticed while I put my contact on that my eye was looking really red. I thought it might just be because I hadn't worn my contact in a long time, but the redness was super red. Well it is conference week, so it wasn't like I could call in, so I went to school anyway. I tried not touching my eye the whole day. Mind you it didn't itch or drain excessive water. It was just red and looked real bad. All the people I talked to thought it was pink eye and thought I needed to go to the doctor. Well there was no way I was going to reschedule 14 conferences and go. So I did the conferences and made an appointment for the following day at 4 after 5 more conferences. Therefore by the time I had gotten to the doc's office and waited 20min, because the front desk couldn't get it's act together, I had talked to and touched all my kids and their families. There is good news and bad news... Good news first: it isn't strep as far as she could tell. Bad news: I have a viral infection and there is nothing she can prescribe. Other news: I have holes in my tonsils and the doc had hers taken out for this reason. So still concerned about my eye and my infectious state I asked: "So what is happening with my eye?"
Doc- "Your eye has caught your viral infection that is in your nose, throat, and chest"
K- "So does that mean I have pink eye?"
Doc- "Yes, that is the color of your eye, but it is because of your viral infection. Your eye has it too."
K- "Is there anything I can get for it?"
Doc- "Well, I can prescribe something, but I wouldn't take it."
K- puzzled look on my face
Doc- "You are highly contagious, it will move into your other eye, don't fill the perscription for two days, and make sure to wash your hands. Have a good day."
K- thought- What the Hell?!?! Did I really just pay for this?!?!?
So I don't have pink eye, but a viral infection in my eyes now...it moved last night. I can only sometimes see out of them. My throat hurts to swallow. I have mucus dropping down my throat at the rate of 2 drops per 10 seconds. I had 2 conferences today and 3 tomorrow. I wanted to go away this weekend, but I need to take care of my body instead

To my best friend Kilipohi, still even though you missed my b-day :)

Take care of yourself. Once your body gets tired and run down it is hard to bounce back, especially with all those little germs in your classroom.

Anyways, I just wanted to say that I can't wait to spend some fun times with you this summer! We miss you and hope you heal soon so we can hang out and have tons of fun!!!
