Oh let Lent come in...

...face it with a grin. Lent is upon us with Ash Wednesday being tomorrow. Lent for me is a time to reconnect with myself and reevaluate where I am going and what I am doing with my life. I have chosen to give up fired foods and basically make some other wonderful eating habit changes, inquire within if you would like to know the dirty details.
I have also been thinking about New Orleans. When I lived in Alabama, my housemates and I made the 6 hour trip down to spend Mardi Gras with the other volunteers doing JVC. It was a great time with a lot of beads, a lot of drinking, and a lot of shenanigans. I wonder if the city will ever be the same? Will people ever fully go back and reclaim the city fully? Will the Southern charm overflow like it did for us the times we visited? Would people move back to a city that potentially could be back underwater?
When Katrina hit and there was mass destruction and chaos, I wanted to go down there and help, but I realized that my students needed me to stay where I was. There were other people going down to help and take care of what had happened. It was their turn. I can't imagine what the city looks like today, or what Mardi Gras looked like either, but I believe that New Orleans is on it's way back up.
