...even when we don't think we are. We really are. We have been affected for centuries, although it has not been as prevalent in our lives until now. Some may think of it as a silent killer, but as far as I know, it is anything but. It is war. It may just kill one person in it's path, but that person is never alone. They are connected.
And as the war wages on in far off countries and lands, it would seem that it could be easily forgotten and/or not thought about and I think for many Americans that is truth until they are affected by their connection. Until it is someone in their town that is killed, or their neighbor, or until it comes right down to it and it is someone that the hold deep in their heart. A son or a daughter, a mother or father.
At that point the whole situation becomes real and we are so much more sensitive to the issues and the stories. We have that human face and human story to connect to. We have been affected.
On this Thanksgiving day, let us give thanks to all the men and women who are fighting for us and our freedom and all their families that are home without them hoping that they will not be the next family to be affected.
